Worthy movies such as Dark Waters used to be the toast of Hollywood. But is the audience for them drying up?

Dark Waters must be the least Todd Haynes film Todd Haynes has ever made. Based on the true story of a corporate lawyer who switches sides to expose pollution by the DuPont chemical company, it is powerful and creditable, but does not feel like the work of the man who gave us the lush, stylised likes of Carol and Far from Heaven. It feels more like an Oscar-bait issue movie in the mould of Erin Brockovich.

Could it possibly be that us rube hillbilly class would rather gnaw off a limb than see liberal dbags acting in a movie...in a movie theater

Don't forget Spotlight won Best Picture not that long ago. The trick is to not look like your chasing Oscar and be entertaining first and foremost. Also add to the list, Concussion, Miss Sloane, Molly's Game, The Book Thief and The Monuments Men.

In an era when films like Avengers Endgame are revered, it tells you everything about the audience's inability to engage outside an adolescent environment. 'I want something simple after a hard week at work' is just a thin excuse for being unimaginative and easily manipulated.

True words? Actor actor, there is no actor in Hollywood within recent 10years..IMHO

Knee-jerk article. Parasite wins the BP Oscar and it's going to reshape Hollywood, but a few recent 'issue' films don't do well at the BO and it's the end for them? Click bait.

Because movies like Green Book and Parasite are doing it better... They're taking social issues and are becoming better at being entertaining first, serious second.
