Independent ur sick and twisted. Feminist paper

God forbid they use evidence!

Yeah!

I assume it means if a point needs to be made thena check is required.

Sadly, this is a terribly misleading piece of journalism. There are very strict rules governing how a trial is conducted, with even more stringent rules applicable to sex cases. Gratuitous smears of a complainant would not be allowed.

What a shame

This is in response to a number of high profile rape cases that have collapsed, because of evidence on a victims phone, which has exonerated the suspect. If you want to blame anyone, blame the unscrupulous women who have falsely claimed rape.

women must protect each other and defend themselves coz the police won't do their job anymore.. welcome to the end of the world

Jesus this is such a scary piece of badly informed reporting. It’s a matter of making sure the matter is investigated fully. It would be remiss not to interrogate social media. Surely it is best to gather all of the evidence and then decide what if any is relevant

It's 2019 and rape culture is still as rife as ever. Stop blaming the victims and start blaming the sick rapists who think they have the right to sexually abuse women.

It does seem to be trying to make the victim the guilty party. Agree all evidence needs to be presented and examined, but is an 'off the cuff' message to a friend, or post on Facebook genuine enough to assist an innocent or guilty verdict?

StrictlyGirls This is so wrong, a physical rape followed by a psychological one,,

Are victims of other types of crimes also required to give up their phones?

Bit of a strawman argument eh ? It's got absolutely zero to do with 'judging your social media' (whatever that means) and everything to do with gathering evidence that may help prosecute or rule out an alleged criminal act.

Anything may be relevant to an objective investigation. An unsubstantiated allegation isn't proof of guilt.

Stil laying blame with the victims 21st century Britain ffs

Of course you unfairly tarnish the police. If a person puts themselves in a dangerous situation, and then something bad happens, shouldn’t their actions at least be looked at by the police?

If a man was raped would you ask him what he was wearing..smh straight ignorance.

Rape victims asked to hand phones to policeProsecutions may not go ahead if police are not given access to emails, messages and photographs. If there’s nothing to hide then why not? Too many have cried wolf & has now ruined it for the real victims to be heard & trusted properly by the police. Why are you giving air time to that bloody foul idiot who thinks if his phone's taken if he's a suspected offender then it's fair for the victim's phone to be taken? There aren't 2 sides here. You wouldn't support other crime victims being blamed - not if they were male anyway.

Rape victims told to hand over mobile phones or see attackers walk freeThe new policy has already attracted criticism, with privacy and women’s campaign groups saying it treats rape victims like suspects, subjecting them to a “digital strip search” and deterring them from coming forward. In which I explain why examining complainants’ phones, though no doubt intrusive, is ultimately necessary: A “digital strip search” such an edgy provocative name for simply wanting to check a persons phone for evidence... you know like in almost all criminal cases..? I don’t think checking a persons phone for evidence is too much to ask or in anyway insensitive. Bullshit, it's a way of embarrassing women into Not reporting rape, by nosing into there private life, to help the numbers game
