Two questions need to be asked. One is whether this is the most cost-effective option. The other is whether this will lead to another free TV licence or triple lock pensions situation, writes Hamish McRae

The answer to the first question is: yes of course he is. It is affordable, and as we have seen in political terms, it is damaging to the government not to follow his lead. The numbers are not large in the totality of public spending.

Boris the chubby, only eat hamburgers and the children of UK always to be hungry

This will pass like every other leftist fad. Until they find their next bandwagon to jump on at break neck speed.

Considering the same government spends 40K a week to pay for MPs meals, they probably can.

To those in need it's affordable even if it plunges us further into debt, those who will receive it will be the ones in later life who will have to repay it, Like It or Not.

Deport all the foreigners from the UK and I will happily chip in to feed the children of my ethnic group.

oh they have the money, it’s just not for those who actually produce it—the working class COVID19 ToryScum

Nope the Government has no money - The Taxpayers pay for everything. The issue is Parents being able to provide for their children. The only way they can do this is if they are allowed to WORK and these ridiculous restrictions are removed. ~ Unsustainable Bankruptcy Policies

Parliament decided not the Tories. Councils have the funds but won’t spend the money

Easy solution. Taxpayers subsidies for MPs Food and drink stops immediately and is ploughed into a new fund managed outside of Govt control. MPs have had 2 wage increases and a IPSA discretionary bonus of £10,000 =?over £17,000 on top of wages and expenses since covid started.

What a stupid article. They've already given councils money to fund this. Why should they pay twice. Sure let's get the poor mites free playstation incase they get bored during lockdown. And new clothes, a new pet & a free pumpkin for Halloween. Stop making stuff up.

With money backed by no physical asset they can print billions of at will for any random project. Yes, yes they can. In fact everything is affordable that can help and it is hunger games because they seem to believe suffering / only just surviving promotes productivity. Wrong!

If they stopped the bs space programs, and churches 'rendered unto Caesar's what is...', and life itself was given the correct value over materialism, all that would work fine.

Boris, the chubby: the children of UK, they are big eaters. I only eat hamburgers

govt if needed could pave the streets with gold by taxing billionaire comps. maybe if they paid their staff more they could feed their children. there's reasons why these people are billionaires. if free lunches are stopped there will be protest he will be removed don't overplay

They have to draw a line somewhere. To not pay for childrens meals while they are not at school (during holidays) is not unreasonable.
