Sounds like adult cops fearing for own lives chose to say 'meh, we know he took a kid, that might be in truck, but who cares? I'm so freaking terrified, if we kill the kid oh well, better him than me!'

that’s so sad. ..no way should guns be used in an incident like that. 😔... back off, let the father calm down and come to his senses, follow him, talk to him, and then let the lawyers sort it all out. trigger happy police procedures. 😔
