Culture secretary Oliver Dowden has defended the government’s actions confining thousands of university students to their rooms due to coronavirus outbreaks saying on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show, that it’s important students continue their studies with safety measures in place and ‘not to give up a year of their life’.

The government has refused to guarantee that university students would be able to return home for Christmas after Labour said they must be allowed to return to their families over the festive period.

There can be no defence for treating students like criminals and trying to prevent them from going home for christmas. Shameful.

What a Tool!

The students & their parents where conned. They needed you to pay the landlords & the universities. The unnecessary lockdown for these children is criminal. They should stand & and fight back because unfortunately there is more to come & it doesn’t get better, it’s about control

This government couldn’t run a bath

What an utterly stupid idiot - sending students back to university to live in Petri dish halls of residence during a pandemic was idiotic

Sacrificing the young & healthy for the sick & old is not a moral position! Remember 'flattening the curve' - So NHS could cope. Yes, protect & shield the sick & old. Let everyone else get on with their lives! A disease with little/no impact on 99.04%

Where is Gavin Williamson?

He has to. A. It helps keep the myth of “ normal” B . They cannot afford Uni’s going bust, and the associated property companies C the date not invite the ire of students, parents and grandparents at the ballot box

How is he defending 0 fans at Silverstone touring cars today While Sochi has 30,000 back at the F1 France has 1,000 at the French open Germany has 10s of 1,000 of fans back at football What is the science that says a few thousand couldn't be at Silverstone or football today?

Did he get a brown envelope from the uni landlords to say that?

Of course he does.
