The move comes as an investigation revealed debt collectors working for British Gas forced their way into the homes of vulnerable customers.

EDF said it forced customers onto prepayment meters only as a"very last resort" when other avenues have been exhausted, and the company is understood to have acted out of caution rather than in response to evidence of bad practice. The boss of British Gas' owner, Centrica, has said

In a statement it said:"We regularly review and update these processes and so we are confident they are fit for purpose. Nonetheless we are currently reviewing them again to reconfirm they are robust and see if we can make any improvements. We have suspended forced installation of prepayment meters while we conduct this latest review.

Another useless quango fit only for the bin.

Will they change the meters back? They should. These poor households have been forced into this and should be compensated immediately

How long did it take for OFGEM to action this?

quite why Ofgem had not already acted is the question that needs asking - caught sitting on their hands, not doing their job

These energy companies are totally out of control. They are shameless tyrants, there behaviour is abhorrent.

But what about ofgem investigating other energy suppliers such as Eon who didexactly the same to me!

Won’t this just mean people will get into more and more debt with the normal meters?

Disgusting to hear this news BritishGas. Forced entry into vulnerable peoples homes and fixing pre paid meters! How low will you go?

Nothing like a regulator on top of its game!!
