O.J. Simpson dies of cancer at 76, family announces

O.J. Simpson, known for his prowess on the football field with USC and the , and later for the criminal and civil trials in the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, died of cancer Wednesday, Simpson’s family announced via social media Thursday. The 76-year-old was recently diagnosed with cancer. On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

also aired “O.J.: Made in America,” a five-part, eight-hour documentary series , which chronicled the trial and Simpson’s life with how it affected sports and culture. Simpson provided a hypothetical account of the murders for a book titled “If I Did It.” Goldman’s family seized publishing rights to the book to help satisfy the $33.5 million civil judgment. Simpson was asked by The Athletic’s Tim Graham for a feature published in August 2021 how he thought his obituary would be presented.
