Concern grows over 111 guidance after audit of clinical calls handled by nurses, paramedics and physios

The NHS 111 service has permanently stopped nurses and other healthcare professionals handling clinical calls with people suspected of having Covid-19 after an audit of recorded calls found more than 60% were not safe.

I’m reading this with caution, whilst there may be a story in here somewhere it’s probably important not to mix the various underlying services behind the 111 number. What’s more worrying is how some in the NHS may react +use this as a way of recreating single national services

Calls are unsafe or nurses are unsafe - or advice is unsafe? 111 has always been a complete disaster. I just do not understand why expanding it was seen as sensible.

It's misrepresentative to lead w/ 'nurses barred' when no specific data on the nurses level of performance is given, no clarity proportion of nurses referred to & other AHPs involved! theRCN perhaps can clarify if nurses are actually 'barred' ... I rather suspect not!
