Helen Walker (pictured), 49 of Watson Avenue, Mansfield, scooped up leftover scraps and pushed them in the three-year-old's face, ignoring his cries of distress on February 24 last year.

A 'cruel' nursery worker who shoved leftover food in a 'vulnerable' toddler's face before trying to blame him for her crime has been jailed.

Walker admitted the offence in February, and was jailed for five months when she returned to Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday. Judge Mark Watson told her: 'This was a cruel offence committed by you in a position of power against a vulnerable victim. You were aware of his developmental needs and sensitivities and this makes your behaviour all the more appalling.
