Nottingham prison officer 'lucky to be alive' after throat cut by inmate

The number of assaults on prison staff hit a record high, up 29% from the previous year to a total of 10,085.

Meanwhile, Labour's shadow justice secretary Richard Burgon claimed that the government's cuts to staff and budgets were"directly to blame for violence spiralling out of control in our prisons".A report by the prisons watchdog last year was scathing of HMP Nottingham, saying it had a"persistent and fundamental lack of safety".

The report also found levels of violence at the prison were"very high" and counted 103 recorded assaults on staff over the previous six months. "This level of disorder contributed to a tense atmosphere at the prison," the report added, noting that even serious violent incidents were not being investigated.

They get paid peanuts..having done that job staffing levels are a joke..the prick probably for 6month added to their sentence n was pissed of cos somebody looked at him wrong..

Prsion officer work for the same wages as a binman and retire at 68 assuming your fit or you get the sack for not being able to fight of prisoners who want to cut your throat. High turnover of staff shocker wonder why that is?
