Navas took the gloves following his deadline day move from Paris St Germain, with fellow new signings Felipe and Andre Ayew on the bench.
Morgan Gibbs-White was a surprise return from injury while Chris Wood started against his old club having been ineligible for the two Carabao Cup ties against Manchester United. Leeds’ new signing Weston McKennie was on the bench, but Jack Harrison did start, despite a deadline-day move to Leicester falling through.
Forest took the lead in the 14th minute when a Morgan Gibbs-White free-kick made it through to the back post and Brennan Johnson lashed in from the edge of the area. Johnson’s strike was the only goal of the first half, but Forest had Navas to thank for that as he produced a string of stops to deny the visitors, saving from Luis Sinisterra, Degnand Gnonto and Luke Ayling.
