It is totally normal for ministers and officials in high pressure jobs to have quarrels and tricky conversations.
There is nothing remotely normal however about a top government official quitting their job, suing the government in the belief they were forced out, deciding to go public with the reasons, and accusing one of the most senior politicians in the country of not being straight with the truth. He cited a"vicious and orchestrated" campaign against him, and suggested that although Home Secretary Priti Patel has denied having anything to do with it, he said that he did not believe her.
Her attitude is to be confrontational to anyone who offers her constructive advice on how some of her ideas of how to achieve the goals set for home office during her period of leadership are not fit for purpose. Bad ideas backed up with a bad attitude.
Sound like someone feels threatened by a strong woman that won't take any of his bullshit.
Didn't like being told she's the boss not him, weasley little wimp, grow a pair. Jog on.
drcartersingh I think Priti Patel’s shelf-life is very limited anyway. Given her appalling track record she’s bound to be involved in more major cock-ups or even bigger scandals sooner or later and will have to go - highly doubt she will still be in cabinet by next election.
Same coukd be said of the BBC
This is perfectly normal, his boss tells him what she wants him to do, he doesn’t like it, you’re out, there’s the door.
Drain that swamp then the BBC, change is coming!
But everything normal about trouble-making women doing whatever it takes to get their own way in Westminster. They really should leave that kind of behaviour to the men; there's a code of communication between them, and it ain't semaphore.
Preti !! Anything but.
Prepare to see the rest of the swamp pack being drained.
This doesn’t look good. Wonder what the court case will expose. Maybe Priti needs a holiday. Is the weather in Israel nice this time of year?
Mm..he doesn’t seem the most dynamic person to push through a heavy Home Office workload. Bit of a hissy fit resignation.
What's unusual is the BBC reporting it!
He doesn’t exactly inspire and fill you with confidence does he? Shouting and swearing ... not ideal, but hardly exceptional in the workplace. God knows what he did to deserve a Knjghthood. SirPhilipRutman PritiPatel
Don’t see what all the fuss is about! Sir Humphrey wouldn’t have done it!😂
I take Sir Philip's side. You have to feel for him when a jugernaught with the express wish to destroy, is speeding through with no brakes.
Patel shouldn’t be anywhere near public office.
Just because he failed to her see off like he saw off Amber Rudd?
She is draining the swamp
It's about time the Ministers took back control from the Civil Servants. Even good old Humpy got his tail clipped by PM Hacker in the end.
Another sore-bottomed remainer? let him rot.
He’s been found out. Useless. Well done patel4witham
What a snowflake he is. This remoaner is still trying to undermine the process. GO patel4witham put the pressure on these overpaid softies.
What a big baby. England was not made great with pathetic little men like him
The BBC desperate to side against the Tories
Taking the fight to the Civil Service, the BBC and the EU Boris is at least beginning to deliver the fundamental reform he promised. The ferocity of the backlash shows that he's on the right track. They've had it their own way for decades!
If this is true good for her! 'Priti Patel has faced massive blocks in order to try and get the Grooming Gang report published due to apparent attempts by the ‘deep state’ to block this. Likewise they have been against the tougher attitude to immigration being put forward by gov'
It's deeply sinister when Civil Servants anonymously brief against Ministers to media. And what is even more sinister is how UK MSM repeat the destabalising spiteful UNVERIFIED gossip from unelected Civil Servants AKA UK's Swamp patel4witham BorisJohnson 10DowningStreet DCMS
Nothing remotely normal about Johnson’s administration.
Well done Priti
Cant wait for the subscription times, you are fucking done.
....maybe he understands how 17.4 million Brexit voters feel after nearly 4 years of being targeted and bullied Priti 1 The Swamp CS 0
It’s fine - they have already replaced him
the deepstate is having an awful time
It is for someone looking for a payday...will be an interesting court case
DrainTheSwamp
Good . Means things are actually going to change
I’m not saying this is the case because, I don’t know the whole comings and goings about this issue but sometimes, some men feels uncomfortable working under a woman 🤔
Is this the man that refused to publish the report on grooming gangs as it wasn't in the public interest?
Priti Patel is his boss, she sets the standards and results she expects to be delivered. No different to the private sector, if you cannot deliver, or you wish to ignore your employers' instructions, you are no longer fit for purpose. Simple. Bye.
Indicative of a far-right nationalist sentiment running through the government and its electorate.
The civil service is protected too much
We have too many senior civil servants, most of whom achieve very little especially when considering how much they are paid.
BBCWorld Another faceless beurocrat who probably thought they were entitled to a job for life!
Every photo shows Patel smirking. She's like the baddie in a kids show. But it isn't TV it's life
johnsweeneyroar Another over paid employee who is not there for his opinions, but to help which even party is voted in to Carry out there political policy. Easy problem solved All press briefings should be sign of by a elected minister , anyone else does, gets fired !
Ditto our FeralGovUk
There is nothing remotely normal about the Home Secretary either, always one step away from disaster...
Sir Humphrey resigns!!
Very iffy....next, BORIS?
Nothing is the nothing. The nothing must go. Mum is the word. No not mum. No not mum. No not mum. I like flowers that are white. The mum is not write not white not brite. B a good person and get nothing Shalom Amen.
“Civil servant”.....servant....his job was to serve the politician elected by the people. Clearly he imagined himself to be the boss, with politicians nothing more than a temporary fixture.
If he says he’s been bullied by her then it should be looked at just as seriously as if she’d said it of him. I actually feel very sorry for him, he seemed broken in that statement.
Clearly staff at the Home Office are deeply unhappy and the politician at the top must bear responsibility for that.
As well as being demonstrably incompetent I’m going to go out on a limb and guess he’s also a Lib/Lab supporter and rabid remainer
His a butt hurt civil servant who goes crying to the papers when the government want things done their way and not his .
Any surprise? Patel is a proven liar so I doubt setting up a hate and bullying campaign against a civil servant is beyond her. Remember people voted this lot into power so I suspect this is just the start. Convention is out of the window.
Spat his dummy out has he.
The Home Office track record proves the guy was totally incompetent. But the BBC never deal in facts just left wing propaganda.
Two sides of a coin, let’s hear her out.
Nothing to see here, just another day at the office wecandowhateverwewant whatthecountryvotedfor
Bias BBC spamming my time line with this one.
