Jacob Rees-Mogg has been criticised for politicising England’s victory in the Cricket World Cup after writing on social media that “we clearly don’t need Europe to win”, a comment that has attracted derision from thousands of cricketing fans eager to educate the Brexiter about the team’s international make-up.
Mr Rees-Mogg, England can only hope to win while other European countries do not take the sport of cricket seriously.
Why can no-one apparently see that this tweet was a joke? I'm not saying it's a good gag, but a gag nonetheless.
He’s like a broken record stuck on the same annoying intro. I think most people expected such a crass comment from him before he even uttered it.
Sadly Jacob_Rees_Mogg qualifies to be an English Politician
He's akin to Hitler. He's despicable.
He was right! Albeit a joke! The English & Wales team led by an Irishman, and also made up of players around the commonwealth!! We don’t need Europe !
Ha ha. Yes our skipper is Irish! If my mother was still alive I think she might have described Mr Mogg as an eejit.
Silly ass.
Not news
Lest We Forget: The 17.4 Million - Not Forgotten!
All the examples of players that are not born in the UK are those born outside the EU, so not sure what the Guardian is trying to say. Just the captain. He did not say 'immigrants' So more BS or lack of knowledge about EU countries Rees-Mogg should not have made the statement
Curious he didn't mention Lewis Hamilton's British Grand Prix win...in a car owned & financed by Mercedes Benz and team managed by an Austrian.
Bit of a sticky wicket, what?
Storm, meet teacup.
He’s a dick, why is anyone surprised he says dickish things...
So apart from Irish born, no-one else is from continental Europe and JRM is right? Thanks Guardian!
