Noel Gallagher has mocked Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool star claimed his club's trophies are more special to the fans than Manchester City's are.
City are currently the dominant force in English football having won five of the past six Premier League titles, with Liverpool the only team to have have beaten them to top spot during that period back in the 2019/20 season. Liverpool have pushed City hard for silverware during Pep Guardiola's reign, but the Manchester club have come out on top - though Alexander-Arnold thinks Liverpool's wins "probably mean more" because they don't have as much money as City.
However, former Oasis star and City fan Gallagher has not taken kindly to Alexander-Arnold's controversial comments, branding the defender a "simpleton" and questioning his reasoning. Gallagher said on talkSPORT: "If he wasn't such a simpleton then I'd say yeah... first of all he says 'in this era City have probably won more trophies than us' and it's like hang on, we have won more trophies than you, in fact we've won twice as many than you.
"For him to come out with that, even by footballer's standards he's a bit dim, isn't he? I don't think he was being clever and all those things saying he's playing mind games - really? What is he, one of the X-Men or something?"
