Nicola Sturgeon says comedian Janey Godley apology was 'dignified'

Nicola Sturgeon has said comedian Janey Godley made a "dignified" apology over tweets which have been branded racist.

Asked why the government did not spot the tweets before hiring Ms Godley, she responded: "These things happen." She had been paid £12,000 by the Scottish government to front its #stopthespike campaign to encourage face coverings and lateral flow testing.image source,The government announced on Thursday it was dropping the adverts, with Ms Godley saying she would donate her fee to the STV Children's Appeal.

She added: "I get a lot of abuse on social media and I know that when people make mistakes the climate that we live in, the culture we live in these days, is pretty unforgiving. She has appeared on the BBC as panellist on shows such as BBC Radio Scotland's Breaking the News and BBC One's Have I Got News for You, and as an actor in Traces.

Ms Godley said in a statement that there were tweets from her past social media which were "horridly offensive".

It was desperate.

Jane Godley and dignified in the same sentence? You fucking kidding me?

There was a lot worse said ‘in the name of comedy’, by this lot (Little Britain). Times have changed and rightly so has the material written today for comedy. Digging up comments from the past, was a bit unfair to JaneyGodley to be honest. She’s unreservedly apologised.

Scf65Forbes Surely there is a massive difference between what someone says in their show in front of paying fans versus an attack via Twitter.

Is there anyone out there who actually listens to what Godley has to say ?

I agree it was dignified, I have not seen the tweets, but JaneyGodley did not duck the issue and said that she was wrong. IF only the UK gov could do the same...

of course it would be she's a SNP supporter.....friends

Yes, only white people can be satirized in 2021. Much ado about nothing.
