Nick Montgomery sacked by Hibs with just two games left

Nick Montgomery has been sacked by Hibs after just eight months in charge following the 4-0 humiliation to Aberdeen.

Montgomery has been under pressure after missing out on the top six of the Scottish Premiership while only managing four league wins since the middle of December. That form saw the Easter Road side drop into the bottom six with the capital club looking to finish as the best of the rest in Scotland. However, the hammering at the hands of Peter Leven's men leave the Leithers in ninth spot in the table.

Following the defeat to Aberdeen, loud boos rang out at Easter Road while a section of the Hibs support refused to leave and staged a sit-in protest. That proved to be too much for the club to take in the wake of fresh investment into the infrastructure at the club coming via Bournemouth owner Bill Foley.

A club statement read: "As a board this was not a decision we made lightly, but felt it a necessary one to move the team forward. Although Nick and his coaching team worked tirelessly, their efforts didn’t deliver the results we had hoped for. I’d like to thank Nick, Sergio, and Miguel for all of their hard work and dedication, and wish them all the best for the future.”

Hibs are now looking for their sixth permanent manager in five years as the revolving door continues to swing at Easter Road. Former captain David Gray will take charge of the final two games of the season – with Motherwell at Easter Road first up on Wednesday night.
