Nadine Ijewere Captured Her Breathtaking Vogue Cover Shot Of The Isle Of Skye On Her iPhoneKnight had been ruminating on the title’s poignant October 1945 cover, a blue sky blotted with clouds, released just after the end of the Second World War. The symbolic moment of peace after so much chaos had parallels with the current climate, Knight felt. “All the awfulness of the pandemic has made us take a much needed step back, and consider a moral rethink into what we’re doing as a species,” he says.
Knight says he has had a “love-hate relationship with the fashion industry” throughout his career behind the camera. “For so long, capitalism has defined whether or not something is good or bad,” he says. “This is our chance to do something more important than just fulfilling human need. We need to work out why we’re stuck on a planet which we have put under threat.” Knight is hopeful the industry will take time to truly reset rather than resume business as usual.
See Knight’s striking picture of the nature surrounding his Surrey home, along with the landscapes other artists and photographers hold close, in the August 2020 issue, which is on sale on Friday 3 July.
