Thousands of teachers and healthcare workers will walkout over pay, with most schools across Northern Ireland closed until midday

Thousands of workers in the education and health sectors in Northern Ireland are due to strike on Tuesday.

Teachers, nurses, ambulance and hospital staff will be on strike. Most schools across Northern Ireland are expected to close until midday. The NASUWT is calling for a 12% increase in salaries, following deadlock over a pay deal for the past year."Our members are not prepared to stand by while their pay packets shrink and their living costs rise," he said.

The Department of Education said there had been active engagement between managers and teachers about pay.

Unless it is about a flag or a rock no one will listen

Pay parity and each worker here are getting taken for complete mugs. It's clear that not only RishiSunak has no care but the NIgovernment as well. The strikes will only get worse. Working conditions/ staffing levels are low and we know how that hinders patient safety. Sort it..

Yeah for healthcare workers in NI (not sure of teachers predicament) and comparing their current salary (which is 21/22 wages still) to the 23/24 Scottish pay offer, I think it's pretty clear why everyone is walking out. When the differences are around 7.5k, there is no
