Kassandra Spence pleaded guilty to the GBH charge at Downpatrick Crown Court following an incident on December 20, 2021, when she significantly injured a child.
She was sentenced to one year and four months in prison, suspended for two years, and also received a disqualification order barring her from working with children under the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults Order 2003.Spence was also notified that the Independent Safeguarding Authority may include them in the Adult & Childrens' barred list as required under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Order 2007.
Following the conviction, Nursing and Midwifery Council Investigating Committee issued an interim order against Spence which stated that she; must limit her practice to South Eastern Health And Social Care Trust, Northern Ireland, and cannot be the nurse in charge of any shift, ensuring that she is supervised at all times during her shifts.A South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust spokesperson said: "Patient safety is the South Eastern Trust’s absolute priority.
