The death toll continued to rise with more than 900 deaths in hospitals being announced on Friday by the NHS giving an overall figure of around 9,000.
NHS England's national medical director Stephen Powis said it was "critical" that people obeyed the instructions and stayed at home. Professor Paul Cosford, emeritus medical director for Public Health England , said the while there were signs the spread of the disease was slowing, it was likely the restrictions would still be needed for several weeks.
"We made quite conservative assumptions about the level of contact reduction these measures would result in," he told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.
The government should be providing them with it instead of the NHS workers buying it themselves
