NHS to close England's only dedicated gender identity clinic for children and young people

The NHS is to close England's only dedicated gender identity clinic for children and young people.

Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust has been told to close its gender clinic by spring after it was criticised in an independent review. New regional centres will be set up to "ensure the holistic needs" of children are fully considered, the NHS said.It was rated as "inadequate" by inspectors who visited in late 2020, after concerns were raised by whistleblowers andThe new centres - one based in London and the other in the North West - will be run in conjunction with leading children's hospitals, including Great Ormond Street and Alder Hey.

They will help support young people under the age of 18 who are struggling with their gender identity.

You make it sound like this is a bad thing. TavistockClosing

That's a very click baity and needlessly alarming headline - given what's actually happening. It's almost as if the BBC enjoys upsetting trans folk.

good

BleffyII 'dedicated' to harming kids on the outcome rather than helping them.

Wow biased bbc ignoring its wickedness.

it needs to be replaced. Trans people deserve dignity and resources. They don't deserve complete affirmation, and ignorance of any other mental health condition.

As we have a legal age of consent for sexual activity, it seems only logical to also have one for gender reassignment. If they're not old enough to have sex, they're not old enough to change gender.

'Tavistock child gender identity clinic to be replaced by two new regional clinics' Surely the BBC could have come up with something like this, rather than making it sound as though the provided service was being withdrawn entirely?

😂 Bigots in the mentions who haven’t read the article or the report thinking their hatred has “won” when they find out the NHS is opening two new regional clinics to replace the Tavi to reduce waiting times & improve care, anti trans fascists having a bad week stonewallwon

Hope it’s being reformed to support with their mental well-being only, Children aren’t old enough to change their gender anyone who thinks so should be investigated by the police

Burying the lead somewhat. Closed following the findings of an independent review.

Best decision ever

Money well saved

Great news for all the trans and non binary kids in need of help. Hopefully the new centres will help with the waiting times and ease the mental health burden these kids face while being denied treatment.

A cruel, retrograde step. After a decade of Conservatives’ mismanagement and underfunding of the NHS, we’ll soon be back to the days of local barbers performing surgery and unqualified midwives-cum-abortionists working in shabby alleys. GTTO
