NHS leaders in England are warning services are under 'enormous strain', due to high demand, staff shortages and high levels of Covid, but the government says the increase in national insurance will help tackle the NHS backlog. vsmacdonald reports.

NHS leaders in England have warned that services are under “enormous strain”, due to a combination of high demand, staff shortages and high levels of Covid. It’s already prompted a number of trusts to declare critical incidents.

The government says the increase in national insurance which has just taken effect will help pay for the cap on social care costs and tackling the NHS backlog.

vsmacdonald I have to say this. IMO Tories are OK with Covid deaths because that will relieve future pressure on Care and Pensions and make the NHS more profitable for the future buyers (and the companies who will give them seats on the boards later). Prove I am wrong.
