that public-sector workers would have their pay frozen in 2021-22.Where does 1% come in?In March 2021, it submitted evidence -This body looks at almost 1.5 million people, including nurses, midwives and health assistants, working for the NHS across the UK. They do not include doctors, dentists and some senior staff, who have their own pay bodies or agreements. But inflation has risen significantly since March. In June, it reached 2.
Any increase in salaries is expensive because of the huge number of staff working in the health service. So a 1% pay increase across the board would equate to more than £500m a year.
No doubt they deserve a rise but 12.5% !! - exactly where would this money come from.
Just getting greedy you can see what will happen they will draft more staff in from abroad to work then they will all be crying then
I think they deserve a double.
They shouldn’t be getting a pay rise and be thankful they’ve had a wage for the last year and a half
Do the government realise that 3% of not much is still, not much. It’s still below inflation. I’m sure the government will be rejecting any recommended pay rises for them selves this year though….
They want 12.5% idiots. Other workers have worked through the whole thing too and are now welcomed with a pay freeze. They should be grateful they are getting a raise at all
1% is enough. Don’t want are taxes or furlough being affected joenottoofussed
Lol 12.5%!!? Never in a million fucking years, unions are taking the piss, no way will they get that much, & the unions know it
Bring I back supertax for millionaires and this would not be a problem
12.5% with the difference deducted from MPs salaries
What does a registered nurse get paid? How does this compare to say police officers, fire officers, teachers, social workers?
Much more than the rest of us who have suffered to get work during this Pandemic.
1% is really too little. Pay what you can afford and remember others will be asking too once this has been granted.
12.5%! They’re living in cloud cuckoo land. People choose this career well aware of the pay scales and whilst they deserve a pay rise, unions are showing how useless and out of touch they are demanding those numbers when most other people put up with pay cuts and redundancy!
Way too much. Out of sync with everyone else. I won't get a rise at all. I've worked all through. The NHS staff are amazing dont get me wrong but be realistic. 1% insulting... 12 5% too much. I think carers are woefully underpaid.
BBCPolitics But auxiliary staff aren’t included as they are often outsourced - cleaners, cooks, porters etc
While deserve not sure; they deserve what we can afford to give. For pay them too much you will only attract folk who want the high pay. Also when funding for your treatment this part of the costing. So you don't get the treatment as can't afford the high cost of staff. Balance?
I appreciate that the NHS has been fantastic They employ 1.1 million FTE. In 16/17 NHS staff costs were £46.7 bn (assume higher now but). A 12.5% payrise would add over £5bn in staff costs annually. £200 extra tax/yr for each taxpayer - currently av. £4k/yr total for NHS.
Everyone would not begrudge NHS works a good pay rise but over 12% the working people wouldn’t go for that because who’s paying
So we'll reject the triple lock for pensioners but pay a nurse on possibly £75k a year nearly another £10k a year? I see.
