Hospitals are having to cancel operations and cancer scans are going unread for weeks because consultant doctors have suddenly begun working to rule in a standoff over NHS pensions.

This was always a deliberate act by George Osborne to cut public sector pensions for high earners, they just thought they would get away with it!
No rational person would be prepared to pay tens of £K in order to work more, which is what’s being asked of consultants here. Until the matter of the taper is resolved, waiting lists will rise scrapthetaper
I fear the consultants will get a bashing tomorrow in the media. Root cause is pension changes in 2016 article eludes but not explained probably cause its technical and hard. Also 'can't afford to' unfair as more realistically they're just losing money to take the extra lists.
