Nearly a thousand tourists stranded by flooding in a tiny New Zealand alpine town woke on Monday to clear, sunny weather, but little other good news: there was still no way in or out by road.
This situation should be a lesson for backpackers as well. I know money can be tight. But, always carry a credit card/extra cash for emergencies like this. Also, doesn't good travel insurance cover situations like this? Flights missed because of natural disasters? travel
Pretty shitty how helicopter companies are taking advantage of the situation.$599 flights out? Gov't should step in, organize staging area outside of flood zone where helicopters could fly shorter, cheaper trips.Then buses could ferry stranded tourists to nearest town from there.
