Housing tenants in Nottingham continue to be targeted by scammers pretending to work for the council after reports of a man knocking on doors in the city. The housing services team at Nottingham City Council says it received a report on Thursday of people being questioned on Ainsdale Crescent, between Aspley and Cinderhill.
The report described a man in his 50s with short grey hair, glasses and a plain dark blue top knocking on doors and claiming to be a "tenant support team worker", asking residents if they needed any repairs doing. One tenant reported the matter to the council immediately. The city council said last month that it was aware of 'claims farmers' operation on council estates across Nottingham, fraudulently making substantial profits from tenants. Recent reports have included residents of Snape Wood in Bulwell being approached by young men, with tenants there expressing their fears at the time.
It also comes as the council revealed it was bolstering its team of solicitors as it deals with an increase in legal claims related to housing repairs. A spokesperson for the city council previously said: "We have processes in place that allow tenants to easily report repairs online or over the phone.
"There's therefore no need for tenants to engage with companies that encourage them to make claims against us. We want to spend the money our tenants pay us in rents on repairs themselves, not on boosting the profits of these companies."
