Britain is the biggest importer of Cypriot halloumi

Women's winner Flo Early with her 8lb Gloucester cheese prize.The winner of the first men's downhill race, Max McDougall, 22, from Brockworth, who won for the first time as champion cheese chaser.Currently the Cypriot government is worried about imitation halloumi, labelled as ‘white grill cheese’ or ‘grillhoumi’, and wants to act to prevent these lookalikes by making halloumi a PDO.

Independent this is a shameful headline. It is the Cypriot govt wants a pdo and the farmers don’t as it stops them producing faux halloumi.

This has got NOTHING to do with the EU. The Cypriot government want the halloumi industry to receive an EU badge of authenticity, known as the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), and their farmers claim this could reduce output. Talk about misleading headlines. Shame!
