New Child Benefit and Guardian's Allowance pay rates due to start next week

People claiming Child Benefit or Guardian’s Allowance will see payment rates rise next week, although they won’t actually receive the full uprating amount until their next payment cycle. This is because most benefit payments from HM Revenue and Customs and the Department for Work and Pensions are paid in arrears.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced the changes in the Spring Budget earlier this month saying that the current threshold system is “unfair”. It is estimated the change will help a further 170,000 families across the UK. What age do Child Benefit payments stop? Child Benefit can be claimed for any child below 16 or under 20 if they stay in approved education or training.
