The Bagel Project couldn't have got off to a better start when it opened its doors in Sherwood . The opening weekend was a sell-out success, attracting a queue of eager food lovers.
"Loads of people came in on the days leading up to it wishing us well. It felt really nice coming into a community. We had a really warm welcome. We feel very lucky to be coming into an area that is really excited to receive us." The chewy bread rings come in three varieties, plain, poppy seeds and "everything" - the classic New York bagel - seasoned with garlic, rosemary, thyme, onion granules and sesame seeds. Eventually the owners want to offer a gluten-free version but for now they don't have the necessary set-up at the bakery to ensure there is no cross-contamination.
It hasn't just been local residents who have welcomed the newcomers. The Pudding Pantry turned up on opening day with a bottle of prosecco and Jenkins, the bar opposite, took over a few beers to say good luck.
