If you visit RSPB Leighton Moss in the spring months, you may experience 'peak booming season'. Booming season, what's that? we hear some of you ask.
The nature reserve is a natural habitat for bitterns and many other species of wildlife and is located on the shores of Morecambe Bay, and on the cusp of Arnside and Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty, straddling the Lancashire-Cumbria border. The facility features the largest reed bed in the north west, which is a rare habitat and home to the bittern.
"It is great to see people from urban areas come and visit us and nature reserves are great for mental and physical wellbeing. Even in the rain, its is beautiful and tranquil place to be and even if I spend a long time at my desk, I like to take five minutes to come out and walk around."
