What will National Insurance changes cost me?

National Insurance payments are increasing in April, to fund social care in England and help the NHS recover after the pandemic.

The government is also going back on a promise made in its 2019 election manifesto not to raise National Insurance. What is the tax increase for?Initially, this will go towards easing pressure on the NHS .This mainly helps older people and people with high care needs, with tasks such as washing, dressing, eating and taking medication.Anyone with assets - like their home, savings and investments - worth less than £20,000 will have their care fully covered by the state.

The care system is under pressure because of an ageing population and the pandemic. It has been hit by staff shortages and falling government spending.

I wouldn't mind the cost, if it a) actually helped the problem b) was fairly distributed. As it is, it's neither.

Middle income earners ‘to be hit hardest’ by national insurance riseWorkers on £30,000 to £50,000 will pay higher percentage of salary than those on £100,000, figures reveal I’ve just about had it with these utter scumbags. Frivolous and profligate with ‘our’ money when it suits them, then they plead poverty and demand that we give them even more. I work my arse off for my money and I object to giving yet more of it to the Govt… Just keeping us hard working plebes in our place. To be honest the ladder has always been pulled up on small businessman and women by both political parties. Looks like the low income earners will be paying the same as the high earners. Isn't that a bigger rotten deal ? NationalInsurance
