Charity must remain a campaigning voice for women, says ex-head Seána Talbot

For 60 years, it has been the UK’s go-to charity for expectant parents in need of antenatal advice and breastfeeding support. But last week the National Childbirth Trust was plunged into crisis amid acrimonious rows about infant feeding and the type of postnatal support it offers, following the abrupt resignation of its president.

The National Childbirth Trust should represent all women. Respecting and supporting every choice women make about feeding. She's right to resign because she can't sign up to that ethos.

Women are being failed time and time again by the lack of information given to them or the lack of knowledge that their care givers have.

I think being supportive, making sure homework is done, and teaching manners is a zillion times more important as a parent than breastfeeding 🤱🤦🏻‍♂️. Stop moralizing women Guardian. Everyone has already heard this advice ad nausea. Stop moralizing women.

I can’t see how she can say that mothers who want to breastfeed are not given enough support from NHS. They make it seem like it’s compulsory. Such pressure and it’s not always easy. Mothers with babies in special baby units are not offered meals if they are not breastfeeding.

Wow! Another GENIUS discovery! Why ppl keep inventing things that were already known to our grandmas and grandads and like 30 generations before them?

What on earth is this tweet

True.

Surely if u WANT a baby you consider all of the options and decide on the best? Too many see it as too much trouble, a bit like getting kids to eat right. Kids are a huge responsibility!

Not to criticise non breastfeeders, but when watching sheep and cows breastfeeding you have to wonder if it’s the size of our brains that gets in the way of our success in some areas

Vear the subject away column.

Breast is best

I may possibly be the only commenter who read the article.

Hardly new. This has been well known....well....forever.

The article is actually about how they're pushing formula milk rather than breast feeding, and how that goes against their basic premise.

Just wait until the trans community start getting involved then the fun and games will really begin.

Good grief, this has been well known...well...forever.

Did you know.....in Islam it is strongly advised that the child be breastfed for 2 years....don’t need the science 😊

Not everybody can breastfeed. All mothers and babies need non-judgmental support.

We women are well aware what’s best for our babies we don’t wait for a rubbish tabloid to tell us our every move!

...as a bloke...with no kids...I can honestly say that I knew that...why/how would processed powdered expensive crap be better?...

This ain't the 3rd world where they've no choice.

Dear god, I heard about that in 1968!!!! What does it take?

Political row brewing in Australia over repatriation of Isil orphans in SyriaA political row is brewing in Australia over the fate of orphans of Islamic State parents languishing in a camp in Syria. Keep me out of this debate. I am for both sides against and for I guess. However I am leaning to say 'no more immigrants'. Britain is a full sardine tin. Britain is too soft. Keep them out, FFS, they're terrorists who crave the downfall of Western civilisation. Bleeding hearts will cause and feel the anger.
