Straight out of a science fiction novel

Nasa has successfully tested a ‘Mars-copter’ designed to soar through the thin Martian atmosphere.

It will be sent to Mars ‘nestled under the belly of the Mars 2020 rover’, which is due to land in February 2021.Scientists had to simulate conditions on the Red Planet in order to carry out tests of the helicopter Aung and her team used a huge vacuum chamber called the Space Simulator to create similar conditions to Mars, sucking air out of the ‘mammoth cylinder’ and injecting carbon dioxide, which is the main constituent of the Red Planet’s atmosphere.
