With the country apoplectic at the entitled behaviour in Downing Street, does the world need the reputation of another Tory flop, Neville Chamberlain, redeemed? As Robert Harris’s historical thriller hits Netflix this week,.
Eerily similar to the Ukraine situation right now
A ridiculous review. People in power and top civil servants did go to oxbridge ~ (considering thats where the smartest brains went its not unreasonable)~ should the film create an alternate reality where the uk was not heavily class based in the 1930s coz u dont like posh people?
Also, Chamberlain has been unfairly treated by history. Yes, he made a huge mistake by appeasing Hitler. That‘s easy for us to say now, as we have hindsight. We know what happened after. Neville didn’t. He followed public opinion at the time, which was against war.
This review is very unfair and biased. Firstly, the movie was scheduled for release in Jan, well before ‘partygate” broke. It is not “poshwashing” as he calls it. Most diplomats in 1930s were ’posh’ and had been to Oxbridge. Finally its very obvious its historical fiction.
