A mother has been arrested after allegedly using her baby as a ‘guarantee’ on her drug debts.
The Brazilian mum, 28, is accused of leaving her two-month-old at a drug den, vowing to return with what she owed.Police chief Bruna Caroline Laet said: ‘In this repulsive situation, the baby’s mother handed it over to a drug house as a guarantee that she would return to pay.
‘In the inquiry, we will investigate the conduct of the mother and of the people who received the baby as payment.’ The mother had already lost custody a day earlier following previous charges of neglect, police said.Police removed the baby from two women at the alleged drug den, who claimed the mother had merely asked them to look after it.A criminal case has been opened against the mother for delivering a child to a third party in return for payment or a reward.
