A Nottingham mum whose teenage son was lured to a park and stabbed to death says she has been given “a reason to keep going” in the wake of his murder. Keishaye Steede's 17-year-old son Lyrico was tricked into thinking he was going on a date before being chased from Hempshill Lane Recreation Ground and fatally slashed in the chest, back and leg on February 13, 2018.
Nottinghamshire Police set up a police cadet base in Bulwell in Lyrico Steede’s name in June 2019, shortly after his killers were sentenced. As it celebrates its fifth anniversary this weekend, his mum has explained how the cadet school had prevented her from focusing on the pain of her loss.“Words can’t describe how difficult and devastating it has been for myself and my family since the passing of my son Lyrico," Ms Steede said.
Ms Steede explained the base would support children like her son, who she said would likely have benefited from such an initiative. “The cadet base is so important because it gives young people the chance to have positive role models to look up to as they navigate the difficulties of growing up.
