Image captionA woman whose leg was broken in a hit-and-run says her mother turned detective and tracked down CCTV of the crash after waiting a week for police to act. After leaving voicemails with police, her mother rang local businesses, one of which had footage of the incident.Ms Carter-Thompson, from Sevenoaks, Kent, said her mother took matters into her own hands and"within the space of six hours we got CCTV of it happening".
The 28-year-old said she was crossing Wellingborough Road at about 23:00 BST with a friend when her leg was hit by the vehicle. Police spoke to her in the ambulance and the following day she was told to expect a call on Monday or Tuesday, but one never came.
NorthantsPolice are a joke. They will respond if you call them with some bullshit trivia. They're great at rescuing cats from trees.
Labour supporters blaming horrendous police work on government cuts.... standard. Anything to propagate their Communist agenda.
As sad as this is for the family involved, BBC get a grip is this really newsworthy. The police are at breaking point I’m sure they would love to have time to investigate everything. It’s clearly down to resources.
Police were too busy on the internet looking for hurty crimes
Seen people robbing in Iceland and Aldi and telling staff to call the police cos they won’t come.
Let’s face facts nothing has been found. Simply a victims representative has decided because the police didn’t react fast enough to go and collect the footage. Headline should be mother assists overstretched police service after daughter hit by motorist
Thanks guys! Fingers crossed they contact us now!
A year ago I reported a bike theft to wmerciapolice and I spent two months tracking the thief down and when I found it for sale on Gumtree they couldn't even be bothered to investigate. They seem to have plenty of time to spend hanging around McDonalds harassing kids though. 🤔
This also has a big impact on all of this. In 2010 there were 143,737 police officers in UK and now there are 123,142. This is equivalent to losing all officers from the 12 forces marked in red on this map.
Sorry are you going to back the Tories as a media outlet and then put stories up complaining the police dont act fast enough. 🤦♂️ How many police cuts have you simply ignored? But hey DA had a drink on a train.
The police don't care, I called them last summer about an incident regarding domestic abuse they said they would send someone over they did nearly a month later took my statement and said there was nothing they could do as it was in the past.
I had to do similar thing once. WestYorksPolice refused to come out to a break in to my car (apparently that's their policy). So I had to go and ask overlooking properties if they witnessed something myself. I'm an ex police officer.
What next after DIY policing; DIY healthcare?

No good expecting the Police to think of doing this in this day and age
The reality of decimated resources, I’m afraid. People join the police force to tackle crime but they’ve been failed by politicians.
Plus she’s attractive..so this is definitely news 🙄
Mom power!
Everyone gettin like neeson these days with the police cuts
Well the Police usually say CCTV is facing the wrong way all the time. So it's good this mother was proactive. Still I hope Amber is mending well she seems like a brave game girl so good luck
cops aren't interested in anything which isn't a serious crime, they simply don't have the numbers to deal with it...
Well Done , Mum. Remember that when you pay your council tax, ask for a rebate from the 'police' budget.
Unless it's someone doing 35 in a 30 zone the police are not bothered.
