Mum breaks down as she puts down 14p on table and says 'that's all our money'

Strangers have raised more than £20,000 after a homeless mum was filmed putting 14p down on a table and saying that’s all she had to feed her son.Film crews recorded the moment she told them ‘That’s all our money’ as she placed down four 2p pieces and six 1p coins.

to raise some money for Rachel, as well as for the food bank she uses and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.Rachel had described having to rely on temporary accommodation and food parcels to support herself and son Bradley, 18.Strangers have offered to help Rachel and Bradley get a new home, food and clothing.

She said: ‘I really didn’t expect for there to be this sort of reaction to the story, it really has overwhelmed me to the point that I just don’t know what to do. ‘If people want to help me though, I ask that it is all done through the Rock Foundation, who are going to help me with food, furniture and housing, and anything after that, they can use to help others and continue the work that they do.’Rachel said she had been made homeless after she fell into rent arrears due to severe depression. She was also sanctioned by Universal Credit for missing an appointment, which further hit her financially.

While it is heartwarming to see people react in such a positive way to one woman's plight, this is not an isolated incident. Perhaps a general crowdfunding sight where the money raised can go to all those in need would have more impact.
