Labour MSP Colin Smyth spoke out spoke out after a fall in the proportion of young people treated within the 18 week target time

A Dumfries-based politician is calling for a cut on the 18 weeks waiting time for young people to receive specialist treatment for mental health services in the region.

According to recent figures, NHS Dumfries and Galloway saw 86.9 per cent treated within 18 weeks in October to December 2023, a fall from 100 per cent for the same period in 2022, and just missing the 90 per cent standard. “We cannot have the young people of Dumfries and Galloway being failed and put in danger due to the inaction of the Scottish Government.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “The latest figures show that we continue to see significant and sustained progress on CAMHS waiting times – the national performance against the target is the fourth highest since records began, and the highest achieved since quarter ending March 2016.
