Russian officials denied Vladimir Putin had joined those fleeing the capital after tracking data from the website FlightRadar showed one of his Government jets taking off at around 12.15pm GMT, before disappearing north west of Moscow.

Footage apparently shows a Wagner convoy being targeted in an airstrike on the M-4. “I am doing everything to repeal this attack and to ensure the freedom and security of our citizens. Those who mutiny have betrayed Russia.”
