The supermarket says it will give the veg to families who want to leave out refreshments for Santa, Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer. The carrots will be handed out from the entrances of Morrisons' 493 stores across the UK on Saturday, December 21.

Morrisons says it hopes the giveaway will introduce more families to wonky veg and encourage people to buy more of it. Pulling carrots from wet fields can result in muddy or slightly scarred carrots that fall short of a "Class 1" criteria. Children would leave out food for Sleipner, the eight-legged horse ridden by Norse God Odin, in the hope that he would stop by on his travels and leave gifts in return.
