Households in Morecambe have been left without water since last night as emergency repairs due to frozen pipes are carried out.
United Utilities shut off main water supply for the area yesterday for 24 hours due to freeze thaw incidents which caused pipes to burst. United Utilities said they are attempting to fix the issues, and announced they had made 'good progress' overnight. Bottled water stations have been set up seeing huge queues of cars pilling up around the town as residents try and get hold of some water. The company had announced early this morning that while some residents should have their taps working again, there is still more work to be done. However, some residents may be able to receive compensation as company issues information on emergency repairs.
On the company website it adds: "If we're unable to give you 48 hours' notice and your water will be off for more than four hours, then we’ll pay you £25. And, if we can’t restore your water supply within the times we set out in our written notice, we’ll also pay you £30 - plus another £30 for every additional 12-hour period we leave you without water."
Sometimes pipes can burst without warning and will need emergency repairs. The company say they'll do their best to let people know what’s happened by posting cards through doors, issuing updates on radio stations and through social media channels.
