A senior government source told The Daily Telegraph: ‘It’s fair to say other countries could go back on the quarantine list. You can see the evidence of where spikes are happening.’
UK government sources told The Guardian that there were currently no plans for air bridges to be revoked with other European countries that have not seen a rise in infections.However, health minister Helen Whately said the situation with all holiday destinations was ‘under review’ and anywhere that showed signs of a second wave could be removed off the ‘safe’ travel list.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, she added: ‘What we said throughout the time when we’ve put in place the policy on the travel corridors, the air bridges, is that we would need to keep those under review, that we would need to monitor the rates in other countries. Dominic Raab insisted Britons cannot be penalised by their employers for having to quarantine. However, leading lawyers were quick to refute his claims with warnings that tourists could be sacked for staying off work and might have to take the leave unpaid.
The majority of new cases seem to be restricted to a few regions, including Catalonia, where Barcelona is located, and Aragon.
