Scientists were delighted that the lunar soil could sprout seeds , even if the growth was stunted
Researchers used small samples of dust collected during the 1969-1972 Apollo missions to grow a type of cress."I can't tell you how astonished we were," said Anna-Lisa Paul, a University of Florida professor who co-authored a paper on the findings. After that, differences emerged. The plants grown in moon soil started to show stress, developed more slowly and ended up stunted.
"This fundamental plant growth research is also a key example of how Nasa is working to unlock agricultural innovations that could help us understand how plants might overcome stressful conditions in food-scarce areas here on Earth."
Moon weed 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Yea … let’s invest trillions in growing grass on the moon for future missions even while we ignore earths carbon imbalance. Our future on the moon is more pressing than our current reality on earth. Nada, sorry .. NASA
Was it potatoes? Please say it was potatoes.
Seems like an awful long way to bring compost from. I get mine from BandQ.
windust Moon soil plus poo I presume?
Waste of money.
Right okay, great. What about the radiation risk
Did they get a hold of some of Matt Damon's poo?
Please say it’s a Cheese plant! 🌿
💡How to grow plants on the moon.💡 You can't stay in one place because you'd get 2 weeks of darkness and the plants would die. So lunar rovers with greenhouses traversing the lunar equator at an average speed of about 10 mph so as to remain in perpetual lunar noon.🌞🌝🌾🌱🍍🍎
elonmusk You now have the option to grow CK in space , Instead of sending them 🤣
Your title is wrong. Should be something like : After converting this planet into a poisonous rubbish tip , the potential of the Moon is being investigated
It didn't grew well is the complete message
This is complete rubbish of course: they grew normally for 6 days - by getting their energy and nutrients from the seed itself. The moon dust could just have easily been steel ball bearings, the cress would still have sprouted.
I will be very happy when these plants are growing on the moon or Mars, that would hopefully mean that space travel is independent of earth's resources.
