This poor bird got sucked into a dam ‘glory hole’ designed to suck away excess water – but apparently survived to tell the tale.
The unfortunate animal was filmed floating towards the huge vortex at the Lake Berryessa resevoir in Napa County, California and disappearing into the hole before shooting out through a separate opening in the dam. But Rick Fowler, who works at the facility and uploaded the clip to Facebook Wednesday insists the upsetting incident had a happy ending.: ‘Thwack – it shot out of like a bullet. It looked like a rag doll – like it was dead.’
Fowler, who disputed online claims the bird was a duck, and instead insists it was a cormorant, added that that moments later the bird took to the air, and flew to dry land. He thinks the cormorant’s ability to dive up to 150ft may have been what helped it survive relatively unscathed.Fowler added: ‘Nobody ever thinks of anything going down that thing and being able to survive.
