Mimi Prober’s Prairie Dresses Revive 18th Century Craft Techniques With Foraged Dyes

In ‘Get Your Greens’, an ongoing series in line with the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, British Vogue explores how the industry is advancing towards a greener future.

After graduating from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, Prober founded a small atelier in Staten Island and began reviving exquisite 18th to early 20th century garments sourced from auction houses. She did not throw a single square of embroidery away, because, Prober tells British, the stories woven into the needlework were too precious to discard. This passion for mindful clothing with a narrative would go on to become the basis of her namesake brand.
