One resident in Little Hadham, Herts, raged: “What’s the council doing? Everyone’s really worried about what’s going on.“We pay so much council tax and they are breaking the law. Yet if we want to do anything, we have to jump through hoops with planning. It’s a joke.”Little Hadham, lined with Porsches and Bentleys, has 53 pads worth over £1million. Travellers began arriving on Good Friday and caravans continued to pour in as recently as last weekend.
But Cllr Geoffrey Williamson admitted: “They bought this field a short while ago. As they are on their own private land, we have no powers to evict.”
