After one person jumped ship early in the day and was rescued by the coastguard, nine more launched themselves into the sea wearing orange life vests, followed by five more.
Laura Lanuza, a spokeswoman for the organisation, said she had heard from crew members that"those who remain aboard are threatening with jumping as well". Italy's hardline interior minister Matteo Salvini has banned the ship from docking, but six other European countries have agreed to take in the migrants - and Spain is now sending a ship to collect them. The Spanish government has dispatched a naval ship to Italian waters to escort the vessel to Spain.
In the first, the Aquarius, operated by two French groups, made the long trip to Spain with 630 migrants after Madrid opened its ports. But Spain has changed its approach, saying international marine laws and EU regulations require that rescued people need to be taken to the closest and safest port. And authorities in Cyprus have picked up 33 migrants found packed onto a small boat. They had been sailing off the island's southern coast.
Return to port of departure... it is bloody simple
Perhaps they should have stayed on dry land
why not sail them back to country of origin? captain and crew should be arrested for people smuggling HumanityFirst
the solution to illegal immigration is pretty simple, send them back to country of origin within 24 hours of arrival, just stop long enough to take their details (fingerprint, DNA etc) so that we can identify and block them from ever coming back into Europe 1/2
They are not trapped the captain can turn round and take them back were they came from
Send them back then...
Turn the boat back then............?
Take them home then
What’s going on at sky news
Then they should travel with a passport and visa for the country they want to go like others. They are being illegally assisted by organisations who are making the problem worse. Supported by Sky News.
