Please mention that France (and almost every other major European country) accepts many many more refugees than the UK does each year.
They could withdraw from the Geneva Convention for Refugees that enables people escaping war and persecution to claim asylum wherever they can reach and allows for unconventional (see nominally illegal) entry. But they've said they won't do that.
