A report alleges US President Joe Biden is scathing about Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu behind the scenes. Meanwhile, the Israeli military says it has rescued two hostages from captivity in Gaza - where dozens have been killed in strikes on the crowded city of Rafah.

Joe Biden has grown frustrated with Benjamin Netanyahu over his military campaign in Gaza and has shown contempt for the Israeli leader behind closed doors, sources have told our US partner network NBC News. The US president has been urging Israel to agree to a ceasefire, but those familiar with the conversations said Mr Netanyahu has been 'giving him hell' and is difficult to deal with.

The US National Security Council has pushed back against the sources' accounts however, saying that despite disagreements on some issues the two men have a 'decades-long relationship that is respectful in public and in private'.The president has become frustrated over Mr Netanyahu's failure to shift tactics in Gaza - where the Hamas-run health ministry says more than 28,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces - and his reluctance to pursue a long-term peace deal.
